How PromptBuff Works
What is the difference between the PromptBuff webapp and the browser extension?
The webapp and the browser extension are two parts of the same powerful suite, designed for different workflows.
The Browser Extension: This is for "in-workflow" enhancement. Its purpose is to meet you exactly where you work—directly inside the ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude interface. It's ideal for enhancing your prompts on the fly, in real-time, without ever leaving your AI chat.
The Webapp: This is your "command center." The webapp is where you can access features beyond the in-page enhancement. This includes your Prompt Library for saving, reusing, and sharing your most successful prompts with your team, as well as managing your account and billing.
Can you explain what "filling assumption gaps" means?
"Filling assumption gaps" is our core feature for turning simple prompts into powerful ones. Here’s a simple 3-step example:
Identify: You write a simple prompt, such as: "Write an email to my team about the new project." This prompt is filled with "assumption gaps"—the AI has to guess the project's name, the deadline, the tone, and the key message.
Query: Instead of letting the AI guess, PromptBuff activates. It will ask you a few simple, targeted questions like:
"What is the project's main goal?"
"What is the specific deadline?"
"What is the desired tone (e.g., formal, casual, urgent)?"
Build: You provide these simple details. PromptBuff then instantly assembles your answers into a comprehensive, high-quality prompt that includes all the critical context the AI needs. Why does the extension need permission to "read and change all my data on websites you visit"?
We know this permission sounds alarming, and we want to be 100% transparent about why it's necessary.
For PromptBuff to read your simple prompt on ChatGPT and display the "assumption gap" questions on that same page, it needs this permission.
The "read" permission lets it see the prompt you've typed into the chat box.
The "change" permission lets it add the PromptBuff helper interface (the questions and buttons) to the page.
This permission is only used on the specific LLM sites we support (like ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.). We do not read or interact with any other websites you visit, such as your email, banking, or social media. Your data and browsing activity on other sites are completely invisible to us.

Data Privacy & Security
Does PromptBuff save my prompts or my AI conversations?
No. We do not save your prompts or AI conversations. Your prompts are processed in real-time within your browser. They are sent to our enhancement model and are immediately discarded after the enhanced prompt is returned to you. We never store your prompts, your AI-generated responses, or any of your proprietary data on our servers.
Do you use my prompts to train your AI models?
No. Absolutely not. Your prompts and data are yours. We never use any of your prompts, your enhanced prompts, or your AI conversations to train our or any third-party AI models. This is a core commitment, similar to the enterprise-grade privacy standards set by leaders in the industry.
What data do you collect and why?
We are transparent about the minimal data we collect. We only collect two types:
Account Information: If you sign up for a Pro Plan, we collect your email address and payment information, which are necessary to manage your subscription.
Anonymous Usage Analytics: We collect non-personal, anonymous data about how users interact with the PromptBuff extension (e.g., "Enhancement button clicked," "Assumption Gap' feature used"). This data contains no personal information and no text from your prompts. We use it solely to understand which features are most popular and to improve our product.
How does PromptBuff protect my data?
We take security seriously. All communication between the extension and our servers (for authentication or enhancement) is encrypted using industry-standard HTTPS. Any data you choose to store (like your saved prompts in the webapp) is encrypted at rest. Troubleshooting & Support
The PromptBuff extension icon isn't showing up or isn't working.
If you're having trouble, please try these steps in order. This checklist solves 90% of common issues:
Check if it's Pinned: First, click the "Extensions" (puzzle piece) icon in your browser toolbar. Find PromptBuff in the list and click the Pin icon. This is the most common fix.
Restart Your Browser: Close your browser completely (all windows) and reopen it. This can resolve temporary glitches.
Check Compatibility: Ensure you are on a supported website (like ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.). The PromptBuff icon will be "greyed out" and inactive on unsupported sites.
Check for Conflicts: Temporarily disable all other browser extensions, then restart your browser and see if PromptBuff works. If it does, another extension is likely interfering. Re-enable your other extensions one-by-one (restarting after each) to find the one causing the conflict.
